Damo Suzuki & The Band Whose Name Is A Symbol - Live 2012 ()

CS Edition of 200 Available on our bandcamp page Cassette reissue of a legendary LP, recorded live in Ottawa at the Dominion Tavern on March 23, 2012 during Damo’s Canadian tour. Originally released in an edition of 100 on the band’s own Birdman Sound label, this set finds the peripatetic Can singer (who, like Chuck Berry before him, tends to play with instrumental backing by local talent) in some of the best company he has yet found. TBWNIAS (in septet format this evening) lay down thick slabs of the distended heavy guitar psych with which they’ve made their rep. But they’re always had underground Germanic influences that surface in their work, so when Damo switches into Tago Mago mode, they… Read more »

Jordan Perry - Changing Always Who Is Waving To Us ()

CS Edition of 150. $6 FTR is excited and honored to be working with the Virginia-based guitarist, Jordan Perry, again on his new cassette. Our previous work with Jordan began with a reissue of his eponymous 2017 debut LP originally released by Good Cry Records (FTR 376), and was followed by vinylization of his self-released 2018 cassette, Witness Tree (FTR465). Both of these albums are fantastic blends of folk technique and avant strategies, and the same can be said of this new cassette, Changing Always Who Is Waving to Us. Comprised of four pieces longer than the work on those earlier albums, the material was recorded earlier this year, originally just as a way to document some improvisations. Jordan returned… Read more »

MB Jones - NOSCI NOFI ()

CS-32 Edition of 50. Numbered. Riso Printed jcard and labels by LookyHere  OUT OF STOCK Bandcamp Most splendid new tape by world-traveller, Matt “MB” Jones. Joined on two tracks by fellow restless maniac, Mike Watt, Jones gets back into something akin to his “old swing.” The music on NOSCI NOFI returns to his avant K-Pop roots, with many dubby and psychedelic touches spattering the super catchy surface-moves he creates.  There are female co-vocals on a couple of tracks, and some Korean drumming to go along with Watt’s bass groovulation. There is also a paean to orgasmic female gushing that acknowledges the importance of vibrational assistance in achieving results, which shows that Matt has what might be called a “firm grasp”… Read more »

Donkey No No - Boomka ()

CS-40 Edition of 46. Numbered. Includes Digital Download Slip. Riso Printed at the Looky Here in Greenfield, MA. Bandcamp Beginning with Jen’s violin-based detournment of Copland’s “Billy the Kid Suite,” Boomka is a ruralist crawl across the  American landscape. It begins in the rolling hills of Western Massachusetts, dithers down through the Appalachian Range, blows across the rivers of the central U.S., emerging onto the windswept crop circles of the plains, ensnaring the mouth breathing song-dusters of the salt seas, wending through the death gulches of the Rockies, only to cross the arid stretches of the Californian desert to extend tongue and tendrils into the sweet Pacific. Like following a holy ghost to water, then asking her to dance on… Read more »

Nothing On Semble - Corners and Their Places ()

CS Edition of 250 with Download Code. Pro-Dubbed. Deepest Hole Music Video.  $8 Herewith, the first expression of the newest project helmed by Brooklyn polymath, Curtis Godino (known for his work with light shows and visual art as much as for his most excellent musical combo, Worthless [FTR 417]). Mellotron is often Curtis’ sonic weapon of choice, and his expressively modal use of the instrument makes Justin Hayward sound like, well…Justin Hayward.  In Curtis’ hands, this ungainly behemoth of a keyboard retains a massive sort of prog pompery that is equal parts majesty and idiocy. The instrumental sections build weirdly ornate sky castles, which are larded with presumably heisted spoken sections, or cloud-like vocals, often resembling Ummagumma-era Floyd in all… Read more »

Plants of the Bible - Plants of the Bible ( / / )

LP Edition of 250. Includes download code. Mastered by Jeremy Pisani. $20 CASSETTE Edition of 200 includes download slip. $5 CD Edition of 500. $5 Here is the first physically graspable music available by this mysterious Western Massachusetts duo, whose sound has been called “Synthetic ASMR love balladry,” by more than one canny listener. Asking them to describe themselves, we received this missive: “Plants of the Bible started in a bedroom in Florence with a tape machine and a poem about an unkillable dog android before it quickly spiraled out of control into a real band with a real record. Their first album is a dreamy cast of imagined characters and everyday events built with elaborately layered sounds. Driven by… Read more »
